Big Island Beaches: Hapuna Beach State Park
Hapuna beach is probably the nicest beach on the Big Island, in fact it is consistently voted as one of the best beaches in America.
It is half a mile long, and 200 ft wide. So there is plenty of room for sunbathing. There is only one group of rocks in the water within this half mile stretch, the rest is beautiful powdery white sand. This makes it the friendliest section of coastline on the Big Island.
There is excellent snorkeling to be found at the south end of the beach along the rocks. There are also some pretty cool lava tubes or cave to explore in the cliff side.
I remember as a teenager, of all the Big Island Beaches, I wanted to go to this beach to body surf and boogie board. The waves can get a little dangerous if the surf comes up, but there are lifeguards seven days a week, and they post safety warnings if the surf is up.
This beach is a favorite for the local people and the tourists, but there is room enough to accommodate us all. In fact it is hard for a picture to take in the size of this magnificent beach.
There is a huge parking lot, with handicapped access on the south side of the lot.
The Park has a couple of big pavilions, and a number of small ones, and they all have barbecue pits.
Plenty of showers, and plenty of restrooms.
Handicapped Access for a wheelchair user.
There is also a concession stand up by the main parking area on the north side.
Last but not least this beach faces pretty much west, so you will be treated to some amazing sunsets.
All in all this beach has everything that you could want, and it is definitely one of my favorite Big Island Beaches.
The only question now, is when are you going to leave some footprints at Hapuna Beach State Park.
