Big Island Bio-Diesel Club looking for more members!

BIG ISLAND BIO-DIESEL CLUB LOOKING FOR MORE MEMBERS
Ocean View, Na’alehu, Kona, Honoka’a...

Are you interested in:

* Making bio-diesel for your diesel engine car? (from almost all used vegetable/cooking oil from restaurants)
* Decreasing your dependence on the ever-increasing gas prices?
* Doing your part to clean the air, by not polluting as much?

If you are interested, the more the merrier!
The more people interested in getting together to learn how to make bio-diesel, the cheaper it will be to make a larger quantity for those involved.

How much bio-diesel can i make?
How much money will i save on gas
and is it worth it?

If someone from Ocean View drives to Kona (about 1 hour) 3 times a week, plus other shorter drives, it averages to using about 20 gallons a week. Or you can say on average someone uses 40-60 gallons of gas a month. Of course this is a rough estimate.

If we get 10-15 people together, we can make 500-600 gallons of bio-diesel. This process would only be a few days or a weekend or two, depending on how many are involved and how well we can work together.

How much fuel will I take home with me?

Each person or family can take about 50-100 gallons of bio-diesel home with them. If regular unleaded gas is $4.00 a gallon (an average to low price on the island right now), you will get $200.00-$400.00 worth of free clean fuel that you helped make yourself.

How much fuel do i go through in a month?

If on average, your car uses about 40-60 gallons of gas per month, it would be like getting free, non-polluting gas for a month or more.

40-60 gallons of regular unleaded gas at $4.00 a gallon = $160.00-$240.00. You would save around $200 bucks a month on gas money. Plus, the supplies you get now will last you through other workshops. And we can work together to find out the most efficient way to collect the veggie oil from restaurants.

Just imagine going to the gas station to get a soda or snacks, but not gas. Just imagine driving, knowing that you made your own clean fuel. Driving would be a different experience. Just imagine.

Is it worth it to you?

What important supplies would I need to get to make bio-diesel at this workshop?

1. 5 gallon jugs or buckets to hold 20 gallons or more of old veggie/cooking oil from a restaurant
2. filters (paper filters for paint or cotton filters or water filters from home depot)
3. 3-4 gallons of regular gas
4. gas jugs to take the bio-diesel that YOU made home with you to fill up your car

KEEP IN MIND: The details of supplies will be discussed during our first meeting and amounts and costs will depend on how many people are involved.
Also: Bio-diesel only works in diesel engine cars. But if you don’t have one, we can also work together to get affordable diesel engine cars or trucks.

How long will this take?

Only about a weekend or two, depending on how many people are into it. The first meeting will be to meet each other and discuss planning, supplies and scheduling. Then only 2-3 days to make the bio-diesel from scratch.

Who will teach us how to make the bio-diesel and lead the workshop?

Sergio from Ocean View is an expert on making bio-diesel. He has been converting diesel engines to use bio-diesel and making bio-diesel for years. He perfected his skills in Argentina where he is from and where the gas prices are ridiculously high. He feels an urgency to get together and give workshops not only because of the increasing gas prices but also to break the vicious cycle of our dependence on buying gas and it’s direct impact on supporting the governments’ wars.

His expertise and his passion for the process will show us the way and produce excellent results. He is ready to teach, he just wants sincerely interested people willing to get their feet wet and hands a little dirty for a couple days.

We met Sergio when Woody was selling his volvo. He stopped by with his truck, run on bio-diesel that he made himself. He was so excited about showing us how it worked, how he made it, what you need and how easy it is to convert some ingredients to a non-polluting fuel from mostly all recycled materials.

We told him, “Sergio, you should have classes or workshops about this. People are interested but just don’t know how to go about it.” He said YES! and that all we need is some interested people. That was a few months ago. Just recently he called feeling how much the gas prices are going to keep rising. I heard the urgency in his voice and his willingness to share his expertise with others who are into it. And that’s why this message goes out.

Are you interested?

We can learn how to become more self-sufficient and energy sustaining. We can make it happen, together.

Thanks for reading this! Peace and love and all that good stuff to you!

Sincerely,

Woody and Dana on behalf of Sergio
