Big Island Fishing Rip Off

I have fished the world and being a sportsman never catch fish for the pure pleasure of catching fish (or for wall trophies). I love the catch them and love to eat my catch or share it with friends or release them for the next lucky angler. I always bring a winter's supply of delicious salmon and halibut back from trips to Alaska, bring tuna and mahi back from Mexico and California, and fresh trout from Colorado and Montana. Now this brings me the key of this whole story. First and last fishing trip in Hawaii, I hook some big yellow fin and mahi in Kona. Headed back to shore I ask the captain if he cleans the fish for free or if I pay him. He says he cleans them because he keeps them. I laughed and said "Right dude, I just paid $700 and worked my ass off to catch MY fish and you're going to keep them?!" That's right he said. Well to make a long story short all (99%) of the boat captains in Hawaii are scammers and either have a stake in a restaurant or sell their catch. They are making money hand over fist on your catch.....and this only happens in the lovely islands of Hawaii. They will tell you great lies as to why you can't have the fish, but take it from a 72 world travelled fisherman, they're full of BS. Head for Alaska, CA, Mexico, Panama, anywhere, but Hawaii.....enjoy the fruits of your labor....and have some delicious fish quick frozen and shipped back with you.
