We want to swim on the Big Island. Fresh water and sea. I am not a great swimmer anymore but love the water. Any suggestions? Also is this a good time to snorkel? I have snorkeled on Maui several times but not the BigIsle.
Thanks
Bobbi

Dear bobbi~ Just got your message, SBI is lining up my submissions from the bottom up so I didn't see it @ first. Okay, so for snorkeling, many say that Big Isle is the best. Contact Aloha Kayak for their Napoo'poo/Captain cook bay snorkeling trips. Another favorite is to just snorkel right along Kona town's coastline. Kahalu'u Beach is a great place for snorkeling, just make sure you go during high tide. Another good swimming entrance is where the little inlet beach right where Palani rd. turns into Ali'i drive. Kahaluu Beach has good swimming, just make sure you tenderly maneuver around the corals. Also, don't ever swim where freshwater meets the saltwater...this is where sharks like to cruise. Punaluu Black sands beach is great swimming, (about fifty miles south of kona on Highway 11). Ku'a Bay, 10-12 miles north of Kona town, (highway 11, or Queen Kaahumanu hiway) where you will see a tiny, grass-covered double peaked mountain on the left side of the road, has great swimming but is only open from 9am to 7pm. Here are some of the best places I know. take care and have a great time! Also, don't forget to thank the Ocean for allowing you to be in it's presence! Permission and Gratitude are the keys to a great vacay here on the islands.
