Enriques... Dangerous for K'au
Three Honest Women in District 6 Council Race
A candidate forum was held on Sunday August 29 at the Eagle’s Hall in Keaau. Present were Marie Burns, Maile David, and Brittany Smart. The forum’s organizers announced that Enriques had been contacted at least three times and been given plenty of notice but had decided not to participate. There was speculation among those attending that Enriques is ducking public forums.
All three candidates were in general agreement about a number of issues including providing water for Ocean View, and not privatizing public roads. Brittany Smart was strongly in support of a community organized potable and agricultural water system to replace that currently run by the County Board of Water Supply. While Smart also strongly supported deferring any sewer charges to Naalehu and Pahala residents until a water treatment facility is actually built, the other candidates indicated they would have to become more familiar with the issue. All three indicated that they would consider the council position a full-time job. Enriques has taken the position that it is a part-time job and in fact has no requirements for attendance at council meetings. Enriques spent last summer at his volleyball camp for teenage girls, enjoying a paid vacation at taxpayer expense. In fact he recently returned from one of those camps. (Ed. Note: some would consider Enriques whole tenure as a councilmember as a paid vacation)
The three women all supported “transparency” as opposed to Enriques position against transparency and his violations of the Sunshine Law. All supported the 2% land fund and the charter issue to mandate a minimum 1% land fund not susceptible to administration raids. Enriques has stated that voters are too stupid to vote on such issues. (Ed. Note: Enriques has a point about voters being stupid. We elected him to the county council. Let’s hope we have wised up.)
While Enriques was not present his positions on these issues are known: He supports the Kenoi administration! When asked at a recent meeting in Pahala who he works for he stated “Hawaii County”, (NOT “the voters” of his district). (Ed. Note: Whoa! One of the few truthful statements I have ever heard from Enriques. What a stupid politician! But perhaps Enriques has a point about stupid voters. We elected him. Show him we can learn. Vote him out!)
WISE UP, PEOPLE! VOTE IN THE PRIMARY FOR AN HONEST WOMAN! SEPTEMBER 18.
