A super parade

A super parade

Splashers fun and fine dining gave us the best: Stuffed French Toast with their special rum sauce drizzle: prime rib and prawns for Christmas and my lunch time personal favorite: batter fried fish and a salad.

This is my fourth time visiting the Big Island, each time we try different restaurants, new activities, new places, but Splashers has continued to lure us back with their great food, good variety, super friendly service and atmosphere.

New thing - zip-lining with Big Island Eco Tours, what a great day, our guides, Amanda and Adam, could not have made it more fun - they were definitely an example of "aloha". An adventure to repeat again and again. I had a blast.

My question is this, is it because they work with primarily tourist that a lot of service workers are not cheerful. We spent 3 months in Key West, a great place with a horrible attitude, is there anything I as a visitor can do to promote a cheery friendly attitude? Office Max and Sports Authority were terrific.

Super thank you

Thanks to both of the responders to my question. I won't take it personally, I'm a pretty sunny personality and just want to spread the rays around. Cheers

The Biggest Problem
by: Anonymous

Low pay. Most of the people waiting on you are making very little money, they're stressed about paying their rent, fixing their car, and where their kids are. Don't take it personally, I'm sure its the same most everywhere.

Tourist Industry
by: David

Having Worked as a bus boy at one of the fancier hotels, when I was young, I know there can be a resentment towards tourists at times.

I hope that it never effected my attitude, but I definitely felt about 10% of the tourists were obnoxious. It almost seemed like some were entertained by making you have a hard time.

What can an individual do to alter this?

I am not sure there is anything to be done. People that are not happy and have a lot of money seem to spread the misery.

Now don't get me wrong, I have a lot of love for a lot of the tourists that I have got to know, but when there are thousands of people that come and then go every week, you are going to get weary of it at times.

Luckily we live in a place that knows what Ohana is. We take care of our own, and those that we recognize the aloha spirit in. The rest of them, we just deal with.

Aloha and E Hui Ho
