On the 4th of July we had the opportunity to stay in Hilo overnight to watch the fireworks display there.
Upon arrival in Hilo town, we went to Puainako center for a bite to eat. Our eldest son Leo suggested that we try out "Pizza Hawaii"...a little "hole-in-the-wall" kine of place.
THere are various games that children can take to the table and play, so that was a plus. At our table we played connect four.
I've never had pizza made from scratch since I've been on the island. It has all been Pizza Hut or Dominoes.
I was very impressed with the quality of service and the pizza. The kid at the counter was very knowledgeable and friendly.
For appetizers we had fried mozzarella sticks, and they were mighty good. We placed an order for the "Mediterranean Pizza"...It was white sauce with garlic, spinach, grilled chicken, mozzarella, provolone, shredded Parmesan cheese, basil and oregano. Wow! It was SOOO good! The only thing I did not like about it was that the chicken was dark meat, but that was it. It totally stuck to the ribs! The flavor was rich and authentic, and the crust was chewy and great.
Next time we go to Hilo, and we want pizza, we know where to go from now on!
Their menu also touts a number of other items, such as Deli Sandwiches, Wraps, "Pizza Bakes", Salads, and Stromboli. There were also wrapped brownies on display at the counter.
I give the place Five Stars.
