Kailua Kona Restaurants: Hotel Manago, -American, Casual

Manago Hotel

Address: 82-6155 Mamalahoa Hwy., Captain Cook, HI

Phone: 808/

About 20 minutes south of Kailua-Kona, Manago is a time-warp experience.

A vintage neon sign identifies the hotel, and Formica tables, ceiling fans, and venetian blinds add to the flavor of this film-noir spot.

The T-shirts (which are great if you need to bring back a gift for anyone) brag that the place has the best pork chops in town, and it's not false advertising.

The fresh fish is excellent as well, especially ono and butterfish.

Unless you request otherwise, the fish is all sautéed with a special butter-soy sauce concoction (always good, don't worry).

Meals come with rice for the table (served family style, of course) and an assortment of side dishes that changes from time to time.
