Florence (Aunty Wai) Tabag will present a Hawaiian perspective onmo`okü`auhau (genealogy) in a Puana Ka `Ike (Imparting Knowledge) lecture in Kona and an Eia Hawai`i presentation in Hilo.
Tabag will speak on Hawaiian genealogy from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 28, at the Keauhou Beach Resort, Conference Room Kahalu`u III, in Kona and from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 31, at the University of Hawai`i at Hilo, UCB 127.
Tabag, of Kahalu`u with ancestral ties to Kawaihae, will discuss Hawaiian family and land connections and papahanaumoku, the practice of genealogy.
Affectionately called "Aunty Wai", Tabag has compiled a vast collection of Hawaiian family genealogies. She acknowledges the importance of connecting families to the `äina from which they originate. One of her goals is to help connect all the Kahalu`u, Kona, families through their genealogies.
