Come visit Lotus Café!

Our goal at Lotus is to serve the highest quality and best tasting Asian food you have ever eaten. Using 35 years of experience working with organic and natural foods, we have created unique recipes and sourced special ingredients to bring you the real flavors of Northern Thailand, Burma, India and Indonesia.

To do this, we grind, mix and blend our own spices from scratch. We cook here just as we cook for ourselves at home. We never use MSG or any ingredients that contain MSG under any name.

We use organic, fresh and local ingredients almost entirely. Many of our ingredients come from our own and other local farms. Our food is mostly grilled, steamed or lightly sauteed. We use only cold pressed oils; nothing is deep fried. All our ingredients are free of artificial flavors, colorings and preservatives. We use whole grains and as many organic ingredients as we can. Our foods are free of any dairy products as well. It does cost more to cook this way, but we think it is worth the extra cost.

Lotus offers a great selection of beverages, including our own fresh organic yellow ginger lemonade, wild lilikoi nectar and Chiang Mai chai, our delicious herbal Thai tea beverage.

Using local fruits and spices almost entirely, we make the finest gelato you ever tasted. Our staff creates a variety of original & delicious flavors. While almost all other gelato shops use premixed bases, fruit concentrates and bottled flavors with many additives, we make our own gelato from scratch, using only fresh and frozen fruit, organic soy & coconut milks, organic cane juice & organic lemon juice so our gelato tastes better and is better for you. Producing small batches by hand allow us to optimize quality and provide you with a truly remarkable product unlike anything made anywhere else. There is no dairy, no eggs and none of the chemicals and artificial flavor and color you will find in all other gelatos!

Our current Organic flavors Include Ginger Vanilla, Wild Lilikoi, Keitt Mango, Kona Espresso Fudge, Yellow Ginger Chai, Creamy Coconut, Strawberry Jam, Double Chocolate, Chocolate Chip Mint, Chocolate Macnut, & Blueberry
The dishes and beverages we offer are some of our favorites from many years of living and traveling in Asia. Most are not offered anywhere else in Hawaii.

Besides the passion for fresh, exotic, delicious and healthy food, Lotus also makes serious efforts to have a positive influence on the environment.
We support the development of a strong local food economy based on sustainable farming techniques. We use only compostable containers, we recycle all our cans, bottles and glass, and support many environmental groups here in Kona that are trying to make this island a better place to live.

As of December 2007, when our photovoltaic system was fully installed, we became the first cafe, and the first business of any kind in Kona to have all our electricity supplied by solar panels on our roof. We would love to have you consider what we stand for and support us if you share our concern for the environment and sustainable economic development. Low voltage lighting, water conserving kitchen equipment, natural lighting & ventilation, tinted windows, and other similar practical technologies are utilized at every chance.

We graciously invite you to share our favorite Asian treats and spend some time at Lotus Cafe. Were conveniently located across from Costco, next door to Island Lifestyle Furniture in Koloko, just 10 minutes from the airport.

If you are craving for asian food - say indian - this is the best experience you could get in a small island in hawaii! We stayed in hawaii big island for 5 days and went here 3 days in a row :) We loved the indian dishes - Yellow curry - typical to sambhar/dal with hot steaming rice - Kashmiri curry - another fantastic curry - cocunut crape with veggies and curry - (dosa with sambhar) - this is the best treat a veggie can get in this island.
We are from New York city and have yet not eaten curry and rice as yummy as this!

We recommend this place to everyone who visits the big island ( kona side) and we feel that our experience would not have been complete without lotus cafe.

Healthiest food in Hawaii
by: Donald A. Bambenek II

I met Ladda and Howie at the Farmer's Market in Kailua-Kona and was impressed by their hard work and concern for providing their customer with natural and organic foods. We went to the LOTUS CAFE to sample their foods. This was the healthiest and best tasting food we had during our visit to Kona. Needless to say we returned and were very pleased with their food and hospitality. They also have a shop with merchandise from Indonesia, Thailand and other regions.

(Their business is off the main strip but adjacent to COSTCO, where we do the majority of our grocery shopping and getting gasoline.)

Ladda and Howie, thank you so much for the wonderful food and atmosphere.

This is not one of those boring places where everything tastes the same. Every dish here has its own distinct character. That ginger lemonade was worth the trip.
