Malu Aina: WORKING FOR A SUSTAINABLE, FOOD-SECURE HAWAI`I (Kurtistown)

Malu 'Aina is reaching out to interested people who want to work towards a sustainable, food-secure Hawai'i.

You are invited to come out to one of our farm-work service days - on the first Saturday of each month, from 9 - 11:30 a.m., followed by a potluck at noon and a one hour vision meeting on how to best use the land we manage to serve the community. There are new and exciting ventures in the works, as we take steps to help assure a healthy future for the people of our island.

Malu 'Aina (Land of Peace) is the Hawaiian name given to the Center for Non-Violent Education and Action located in 'Ola'a (Kurtistown - ten miles south of Hilo). We are a spiritual community based on peace, justice and sustainable organic farming. We work cooperatively, seeking, through aloha 'aina (love for the land), a deeper understanding of non-violence as a way of life. For those who choose to live with us for a while, Malu 'Aina provides room and board along with a valuable experience in organic farming, aquaculture, and non-violent activism.

We are an all-volunteer community, living simply on catchment water and solar-generated electricity. Life on the farm involves healthy physical labor under basic living conditions. We try to live a life of community service by helping people in need of food, and through our work for peace and social justice.

Come see if this is something you'd be interested in contributing to, both for your own benefit and for that of the community.
