Aloha Kakou,

There's an attempted land theft happening on the Big Island at this very moment. Why is this land theft more significant than the others? It involves pristine Ka'u, the last frontier in Hawaii. We don't need another Oahu. We need to preserve this magnificent island for future generations. Please sign the petition to help keep the rightful owners in their home, stewarding this amazing land.

Mega developer Ed Olson and the county is pushing hard to steal the pristine land of Kawa'a (rightfully owned by Abel Lui and family), especially when they have a deadline of end of June. This has been a long standing assault of human rights and environmental protection. Since Olson has close ties with the press, information is severely skewed to misrepresent the truth. This issue needs to be widely publicized to reflect truth, not manipulated by those in power. The Lui family had been physically assaulted (tazered, unnecessary force on the elderly) by the police multiple times for standing their ground. They have a federal court date coming up in the near future. There is an online petition to ganar support from the public and they are needing financial help due to great costs associated with this dispute.

Now that you know, please do something....anything!

but as an act of self-defense against a homicidal maniac."

HMMMM.... it is rather bothersome that people actually believe everything they read without checking out the facts of it all. it is true that Abel is requesting assistance in this petition to keep him from eviction but do any of you ask yourselves why they are requesting that Abel be evicted? He is destroying what he claims to protect!! people should read this blog before even thinking of signing or donating to this cause.

Regarding Kawa and Kau Land
by: Anonymous

In 2005, Olson purchased the property from Okuna. Abel and others claiming through him have continued to illegally occupy the property. In June of this year, the Third Circuit Court recognized that Abel did not have any interest in title to the property and ordered his ejectment.

In today's meeting the Board of Land and Natural Resouce (BLNR) denied Abel's request for a contested hearing and approved the pass thru of funds for the County to purchase the property from Olson as part of the LEGACY LAND CONSERVATION PROGAM.

Under Hawaii Revised Statutes, section 173A-2.6, the Legacy Land Conservation Program is
mandated to prioritize the protection of lands having exceptional value due to the presence of
unique aesthetic resources, unique and valuable cultural or archaeological resources; or habitats
for threatened or endangered species of flora, fauna, or aquatic resources. Here's a link to the FACT SHEET of Kawa Bay Coastal Acquisition (Part 1) http://hawaii.gov/dlnr/dofaw/llcp/project-info-sheets/llcp%20info%20sheet_FY07%20Kawa.pdf
