South Kona Restaurant: Brando's Mexican Food, the Former Senor Billys

Brando's, In Kealakekua across from the police/fire station is definitely a good place to go for quality Mexican food. The atmosphere is casual and the service is, well...decent. The cook screwed up my order and I hate to think that the lovely waitress ever caught flack for his screw ups. They just opened in October so they will be weeding out employees as they go along.

One day David and I went out to go eat at what we thought was Senor Billy's Cantina, only to find it was shut down and the roof was painted blue from it's original red. We went there again a couple of days later to find it somewhat renovated and different staff attending the counter.

We happened to go in on a "Two Dollar Taco Tuesday" with a live band playing in the outside dining area. During the "Pau Hana Party", with any entree order, you'll get free chips and salsa. The simple chips and salsa were so ono!

I ordered a "Loaded Nachos" plate, and boy was it loaded...more loaded than the Senor Billy's Nachos that I loved. There was plenty of shredded chicken across the top with piles of guacamole, sour cream, and their salsa. With tons of cheese and beans, there was not one chip that didn't have something tasty on it. That night I also tried the tacos as well. They did not taste cheap and greasy like most tacos I've had from other restaurants around here.

You can have your choice of meats on all their entrees, and I chose the carne asada. The flavor was smoky and bold.

Every weekday has a particular theme with certain meal deals, and there is also "Pau Hana" happy hours from 3pm-6pm Monday Thru friday with Half Price pupus.

All in all, I'm not exaggerating to say that Brando's is the best Mexican food out of all the restaurants I've tried. I'll definitely be a repeat customer and if I ever want Mexican food, I will choose them above the rest. Everything about the food is good, and If you ever have a problem, the owner Brandon will definitely go out of his way to make things pono (good) for you. I hope these guys stay around for a long time.
