Create your own unique expression through the Art of Collage. The North Kohala Learning Center at Kenji’s will sponsor two sessions of three classes each with collage artist Rebecca Lux Parks. Techniques for creative inspiration, focus, and artistic composition will be explored. Classes for the first session will be May 8, 15, and 22, Tuesdays, from 6-8 pm . Cost is $55 per 3 class session or $45 per session with early registration by May 4th. The second session of classes will be May 29, June 5, and 12. The term collage derives from the French "coller" meaning “glue”. A collage is a work of art made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole. Collage art is a great venue for recycling old magazines, jewelry, and fun tidbits. Varied materials such as beautiful paper, newsprint, photographs, ribbons, and found objects can be used. The origins of collage can be traced back hundreds of years, but this technique made a dramatic reappearance in the early 20th century as an art form of novelty.
The North Kohala Learning Center we will be having a community art show for collage pieces at Kenjis Gallery; all ages welcome; $5 entry per piece. Opening night, Tuesday, June 19th, 5-7:30 pm, and will run through 7/12. To submit work:
